Product Development

The product design and engineering development practice focuses on the technical development of miniaturized, low power, environment aware, smart devices for data gathering, sensing and control. Our devices have the following characteristics:

  • Ultra low power with battery life measured in yearsbuttonNetwork
  • Sensor rich, including motion, magnetic field, and light spectrum
  • Closed loop control
  • Wireless communications (IoT, M2M)
  • Internet enabled
  • Integration with back-end and cloud servers
  • Rich user interaction
  • Remotely manageable and upgradeable
  • Harsh climate operation

To date, we have developed products for wireless environmental sensing and location tracking, wrist-worn wearable devices for electro-optical physiological measurements, and wrist-worn motion trackers to assess activity level. We are currently developing sensor pods for micro-climate monitoring and control.

We can integrate semi custom, industrial grade electronic equipment for off-the-grid (fuel cell) deployment in the harsh climate of the Canadian North. This equipment is difficult to access and requires full remote management including upgrading its software remotely.

Why Cipangu?

We have a focused practice area specializing on devices that function at the edge of the network.  This allows us to keep abreast of new offerings – components, pricing, and functionality – from major component manufacturers such as Texas Instruments, Nordic, Arm and others. Our designs leverage these technology developments.

We take a systems approach to design. A device is not just a device, it has to integrate with other devices in a whole ecosystem that delivers value to its user. We design whole system architectures and services to meet end-user requirements.

We are meticulous about developing devices that interact effectively with the user despite limited processing capabilities.
